PRRD has given no orders to assist any candidate: Chief of the DILG

MANILA, Philippines β€” According to the country’s interior director, President Rodrigo Duterte has not issued any orders to assist any candidate, particularly those running for president in the May 9 elections.

“For your implication that someone higher up will order the uniformed forces to favor this or that or provide support to this, if you’re referring to the President or someone in Malacanang, I’ll tell you straight up: there is no such order.” “The President has stated repeatedly that he will not endorse any presidential contender,” DILG Secretary Eduardo Ano said during a joint press conference with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the upcoming elections in Camp Crame.

Duterte’s major instruction, according to Ano, is to ensure that people can securely cast their votes in the polls.

“The President presided over a joint AFP-PNP command conference. I desire a peaceful, clean, organized, and honest election, (Isa lang palagi ang sinasabi niya). We need a clean, honest, and orderly election because he has a strong desire to know who the people will vote for. We shall not take sides. We will ensure that individuals have the opportunity to vote and that the ballot box remains pristine. So that’s the standing order, and we’re prepared to punish anyone inside the department or within the uniformed services under the DILG for any violations or political games. That is our public assurance, and we will do our job appropriately,” he stated.

Meanwhile, PNP Director Gen. Dionardo Carlos stated that as the agency tasked with securing the polls, they will adhere to the President’s directives.

“We do not get any illegal orders, therefore a total of 225,000 police officers will stand directly, professionally, and perform as a Comelec deputized agency, which is our responsibility,” he said “Added he.

The PNP commander stated that constant meetings are held at the regional, provincial, city, and municipal levels in order to ensure peaceful elections.

“We are here to work for a peaceful election, and I am pleased to report that we are working on our mandate and functions, while yung ating mga pulis are truly performing for a peaceful election,” she said. All we have to do now is go back to the ground and see what’s really going on, then provide direction, and set it up such that the NTF is monitoring and the DO (Directorate for Operations) is keeping all the records and data and sending it to the Comelec. At the same time, we go to the ground and ensure that the field commanders are there on the ground supervising the police units,” he said.

PNP deputy chief of operations and concurrent head of the PNP National Task Force for the May 9 elections, Lt. Gen. Ferdinand Divina, said they had suggested putting 105 municipalities and 15 cities on the red category for the May 9 elections.

“The specifications of this number are already available with the directorate for operations, but because we are a deputized agency of the Comelec, we will always resort to the Comelec’s clearance for such dissemination,” Divina added.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez, who was also present during the press briefing, stated that the Comelec is continuing to validate the PNP’s areas of concern.

“We are undergoing validation, and we hope to be able to share the full list of areas of concern within the week.” What we’re doing now is respecting the PNP’s conclusions and believing that, sure, there is a basis for them; we simply need to double-check with our people on the ground about the issue. Also, to determine what the commission’s appropriate response will be. We like to employ a light hand on this topic because we find it highly disruptive to the local population if bigla tayong papasok diyan ang magdedeklara tayo ng (if we suddenly declare) hotspot or area of concern, as Commissioner George Garcia stated. “At this time, there is room for validation,” Jimenez explained.
