Querubin resigns from the Leni support organization, citing the VP’s ties to the Reds.

MANILA – Ariel Querubin, a retired Marine colonel and Medal of Valor recipient, resigned as a member of a business and professional association after some of its leaders allegedly showed support for Vice President Leni Robredo’s candidacy.

“As a soldier and a Medal of Valor recipient who has fought the CPP-NPA (Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army) and a witness to soldiers who perished in combat fighting the state’s adversaries,” he wrote in an undated open letter to the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP).

In a recent meeting with “PNP (Philippine National Police) Senior Officers and representatives of the National Task Force on Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) and former NPA rebels,” Querubin said he was briefed on Robredo’s alleged ties to the communist movement.

Querubin and his wife have resigned “as PSD (Programs and Services Directorate) Head and as members of BCBP Quezon City Chapter” as a result of this event.

“Tithes are supposed to be used for evangelizing and helping the poor, not for campaigning for a specific candidate in elections. Please return the tithing checks that were issued between May and December 1, 2022. We believe in love, unity, and progress, as well as free, fair, and peaceful elections “Added he.

For conducting an operation against 300 Moro Islamic Liberation Front fighters in Lanao Del Norte in March of that year, he was awarded the Medal of Valor, the highest military decoration for a remarkable deed of personal bravery.

Following a botched coup attempt against former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Querubin was among those participating in a standoff at Fort Bonifacio, which resulted in the country’s proclamation of a state of emergency in February 2006.

He was, however, among those given amnesty by former President Benigno Aquino III’s Proclamation No. 50 in 2010.

Querubin is one of several retired military officers who had previously indicated support for former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s candidacy.

Meanwhile, Robredo has stated that she will never join forces with anyone who employs violence to achieve their goals.

“Malinaw ang motibasyon ng walang-tigil na pangre-redtag sa akin at sa mga volunteers natin: Ang pigilan ang momentum ng ating People’s Campaign,” said Robredo in a statement on Thursday.
