MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is still waiting for an official copy of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) resolution authorizing the fuel subsidy program to resume.

LTFRB Executive Director Maria “Tina” Cassion said the Comelec ruling is a “victory” for public utility vehicle (PUV), drivers and operators, amid rising gasoline and other commodity prices in a Viber message to reporters on Thursday.

“Since there is no official copy of the ruling yet, hindi rin namin alam po kung ano ‘yung mga sinasabi na conditions (We don’t know what these requirements are because there is no official copy of the decision yet).” So, in order for us to respond appropriately, we need to first receive the decision,” Cassion explained.

Cassion thanked the Comelec for the “positive decision,” noting that an advance copy of the resolution might be available as early as next week.

The LTFRB’s gasoline subsidy program, which was temporarily halted last March 25, has been exempted from the cash disbursement ban during elections, according to Comelec Commissioner George Garcia.

He did say, however, that the LTFRB must wait for the Comelec to disclose the resolution since it will include restrictions that the LTFRB must adhere to.

He explained that the announcement was made to give the LTFRB time to consider how to “fully administer” the program and compile a list of recipients.
