Over 2.7K people would be deployed by the MMDA for the Holy Week evacuation.

MANILA, Philippines β€” To safeguard public safety during the next Holy Week exodus, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will deploy 2,681 people to several important roadways, transportation hubs, and other vital sites in the National Capital Region (NCR).

MMDA Chair Romando Artes said in a statement that these people will be deployed from April 8 to April 18.

“To safeguard the safety of thousands of commuters expected to go to surrounding provinces to take advantage of the lengthy Holy Week vacation,” Artes added, “the majority of the traffic personnel will be deployed to highways leading to provincial bus terminals, seaports, airports, and significant churches.”

The MMDA will concentrate on entry and departure points in Metro Manila, such as the North Luzon Expressway, South Luzon Expressway, Coastal Road, MacArthur Highway, Mindanao Avenue, and A. Bonifacio, he added.

The Redemptorist Church in Paraaque City, Sto. Domingo in Quezon City, San Agustin in Intramuros, and Quiapo Church in Manila will all have traffic enforcers and other employees assigned to them.

The MMDA has established a “no day-off and no absence policy” for all of its traffic and field workers when vehicular traffic is projected to be heavy to guarantee that enough personnel are available for this period.

“These precautionary measures are intended to promote a peaceful, orderly, and meaningful Lent,” Artes stated.

He also announced that the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP), also known as the number coding scheme, will be suspended throughout the NCR on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, both of which have been proclaimed holidays.

The deployment is part of the Philippine National Police’s “Oplan Metro Alalay Semana Santa 2022,” which includes the Philippine National Police NCR Police Office, several local government units, traffic bureaus, and other government agencies.
