The MRT-3 has finished overhauling 50 train cars.
MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) has finished the overhaul of 50 of its 72 train cars, accounting for more than two-thirds of the whole fleet.
The MRT-3 said in a Facebook post on Friday that the most recently renovated train car was deployed on Wednesday and that another set would be deployed by the end of March.
According to the company, these train cars have passed rigorous speed testing and quality checks to assure passenger safety.
“In all, only 22 bagon na lamang sa 72 bagon ng MRT-3 ang naka i-schedule na ma-overhaul ng maintenance provider ng linya,” the MRT-3 said.
The renovation of the train cars contributed to the rail line’s improved passenger capacity.
“Sa kasalukuyan, kayang makapagpatakbo ng MRT-3 ng hanggang 21 train sets,” the MRT-3 said. “Kasama ang 19 na 3-car CKD train sets at dalawang 4-car CKD train sets.”
At full capacity, each train car can carry up to 394 passengers, for a total of 1,182 passengers per three-car train or 1,576 passengers every four-car train.
It also urged passengers to adhere to Covid-19 health and safety rules to protect their personal health, which includes wearing face masks and not chatting, eating, or drinking inside the trains.
