PILAR, Bataan – The town of PILAR is located on the island of Bataan. President Rodrigo R. Duterte praised the bravery of medical first responders and ordinary Filipinos in the country’s ongoing fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) epidemic on Saturday.

The Chief Executive, in a speech read by Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, emphasized that the doctors, nurses, medical staff, and professionals who willingly stepped up to the frontlines to treat individuals who were sick and infected with Covid-19 also showed heroism.

Guevarra spoke on behalf of Duterte at the 80th Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) rites conducted at the Dambana ng Kagitingan atop the historic Mount Samat in this city.

“As of last year, over a hundred medical front liner had been lost permanently in our struggle against the Covid-19 pandemic, constituting a veritable heritage of our national medical competence.” As a result of their heroic devotion and sacrifice, countless lives have been spared,” the President’s message stated.

Duterte continued, “Heroism was also shown in the contribution of ordinary Filipinos who performed their duty of adhering to the basic public health standards against the disease in order to limit the risk of additional infection in the communities.”

Guevarra, on the other hand, compared the sacrifices of OFWs and other migrants to the courage of Filipino troops during World War II.

“The march of the soldiers during World War II is one of the cruelest things they encountered. When compared to the relocation of Filipinos working abroad, this is a sort of heroism,” the Secretary stated at the event.

According to Guevarra, the Filipino people’s migration is fueled by their desire to put family first and create a future for their loved ones that is far better than what they inherited.

He went on to say that it is because of this devotion that they have been able to suffer conditions far more difficult than loneliness in order to ensure the survival and betterment of those they have left behind.

“Our people’s optimism for a better future for their loved ones inspires tremendous courage in them.” “Our national anthem’s last verse, ‘ang mamatay nang dahil sa’yo (to die because of you),” Guevarra remarked, “is invoked by this courage, this boldness in spirit, invoked by the vision of a family enjoying a respectable life.”

According to the Secretary, the work of those Filipinos across the seas improved the quality of life for their families and supported the country’s economic recovery after two years of the pandemic.

Guevarra emphasized that heroism should be aspired for in the future national and local elections in 2022, which will determine the country’s next leaders.

He believes that voters should once again demonstrate their ability to see beyond themselves by electing a competent and forward-thinking government.

“Kagitingan ng mga Beterano, Inspirasyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino” is the subject of the festival.

The day began with the laying of flowers by Guevarra, Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Koshikawa Kazuhiko, and U.S. Charge d’Affaires Heather Variava.

Governor Albert Garcia of Bataan gave the opening comments.

On the other hand, the Philippine Postal Corporation and the Philippine Amusement Gaming Corporation released a commemorative stamp.
