MANILA, Philippines — Former Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) chairwoman Greco Belgica and House Deputy Speaker Rolando Marcoleta, both senatorial aspirants, have an “excellent” track record, according to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

This comes after Duterte claimed to be one of the people who persuaded Greco and Marcoleta to run for senator on May 9, 2022.

Duterte expressed hope that the Filipino electorate would vote for Greco, whom he commended for his achievements and anti-corruption actions while at the PACC, during the President’s Chatroom on state-run PTV-4 on Saturday night.

During his one-on-one conversation with Duterte, Greco promised him that the outgoing administration’s policies and activities, notably the anti-narcotics campaign, would be continued.

Greco also promised to keep the country peaceful and orderly, strengthen the justice system, and revise the “passive” anti-corruption statute.

Duterte expressed confidence in Greco’s ability to fulfill his vow to campaign for legislation that will benefit the country if elected to the Senate.

“Just listening to you, if you can achieve half of what you’re saying now, lalo na ‘yung pag-ano sa batas (particularly on the legislation, if) you reinforce it, you’re on the right route,” I remarked. As a result, I strongly advise you to advocate vigorously. “Paalamin natin ‘yung tao kung gaano ka ka-Pilipino na nag-mahal ng bayan,” he remarked.

Duterte also vowed to campaign for Belgica, a senatorial candidate from the Chief Executive’s ruling party, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan, who is one of the “Lucky 7” senate candidates (PDP-Laban).

“I watched you work hard, and I believe you will be good, I am sure, ‘pag umabot ka ng Senado (if you earn a Senate seat),” he said Belgica.

Meanwhile, Duterte stated that after watching Marcoleta’s determination to going after oligarchs, he began to like him. Marcoleta was also one of the PDP-“Lucky Laban’s 7” Senate bets.

Duterte also praised Marcoleta for being the most outspoken legislator against the renewal of the local media behemoth ABS-CBN Corp’s franchise.

He told Marcoleta, “I was quite amazed.” “Oligarchs ka takot sa hindi.” Hindi ka takot sa pera nila nila nila nila nila nila nil (Oligarchs aren’t something you’re terrified of.) You’re not concerned about what they might do with their money.”

He praised Marcoleta as a “principled man, highly honest, and a [man] with integrity,” as well.

“Iyan ang gusto ko, Manalo ka,” says the narrator (What I want is you win). Use your heart’s passion to work for the Filipino people, lalo na ako, paalis na (especially now that I’m going to leave office),” Duterte remarked.
