As ‘Agaton’ weakens, the public is warned to take cautious steps.

MANILA, Philippines β€” Despite the fact that “Agaton” (international name Megi) was downgraded to a tropical depression on Monday morning, Malacanang warned inhabitants in impacted areas to continue to take cautious precautions.

“Muli kaming nananawagan sa public, lalo na sa mga lugar na naapektuhan ng bagyo, na magsagawa ng kinakailangan preventative measures,” says the author. In a press statement, acting presidential spokesperson Sec. Martin Andanar said, “Read and watch the latest weather forecasts and bulletins).”

Andanar, who is also the secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), urged the public to work with officials and agencies in the event of a rescue mission.

He stated that the executive branch is keeping a close eye on the tropical depression as well as agencies’ responses to the weather disturbance.

Andanar stated, “The government’s hands are on deck to assist impacted residents.”

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council is currently coordinating relief efforts with disaster councils in affected areas.

As of 8 a.m. Monday, there were 201 affected barangays in Region 6, Region 7, Region 8, Region 10, Region 11, Region 12, Caraga, and BARMM, with 3,717 displaced families housed in 71 evacuation shelters.
