MANILA, Philippines — Despite expected snags on the first day of overseas absentee voting (OAV), presidential candidate Senator Manny Pacquiao expressed confidence in the Commission on Elections (Comelec) ability to conduct the 2022 elections.

Pacquiao urged the public to have faith in the election authority to execute its job properly.

“Tayo magtiwala sa Comelec at sa lahat ng mga namamahala at sa mga guro na in-charge sa election,” he said. Ang trabaho nila ay alam natin, ginagampanan nila ang trabaho nila para makita ang malinis at matagumpay ang halalan 2022. Let us put our trust in the Comelec and all those in charge of election supervision, as well as the teachers in charge. They know what they’re doing, and they’re doing it to assure a clean and credible election in 2022),” Pacquiao said in a statement issued on Monday in Dipolog City, where he was campaigning in Zamboanga del Norte.

The first day of OAV was “mostly quiet, and the opening of our posts was successful, save for minor issues that we can’t avoid,” according to the Comelec.

Pacquiao also wants to make sure that the overseas Filipino workers who helped him during his famous boxing career are aware of his platforms and intentions.

Before a parade across the city, he met with Dipolog City Mayor Darel Uy and his father, Zamboanga del Norte Governor Roberto Uy.

Before hosting a huge rally at the Zamboanga City Convention Center, he had a meet-and-greet with supporters at a gym in the municipality of Roxas.
