End-of-term strong approval ratings for Duterte are a ‘rareity’ in Philippine presidential politics.

MANILA, Philippines β€” According to the findings of a Pahayag 2022 first-quarter poll done by PUBLiCUS Asia Inc., President Rodrigo Roa Duterte received stronger approval and trust ratings just over two months before his tenure ends.

According to the study, which was conducted from March 30 to April 6, 67.2 percent of the 1,500 respondents said they “approve” or “highly approve” of Duterte’s performance as president over the past 12 months.

This statistic is 2.3 percentage points higher than Duterte’s first-quarter approval rating of 65 percent.

61.2 percent of respondents regarded Duterte’s trustworthiness as “high” or “very high,” up 6.2 percentage points from his 55 percent trust rating in the same period last year.

His disapproval rating was 15.2 percent in the first quarter of 2022, and his low trust rating was 16.6 percent.

Duterte is on track to become the first president in recent history to complete his tenure with approval and trust ratings above 50%, according to PUBLiCUS Executive Director Aureli Sinsuat, a “rareity” in Philippine presidential politics.

Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo, on the other hand, received a 32.3 percent approval rating, up 3.3 percentage points from her 29 percent approval rating in the first quarter of 2021.

Her trust rating rose from 18.7% to 27.2 percent, a gain of 8.5 percentage points.

Among the top five government officials, she also had the greatest total disapproval and total poor trust scores.

According to the poll, 42.2 percent of respondents said they “disapprove” or “strongly disapprove” of Robredo’s performance in the previous year, while 48.2 percent said they have “no trust” or “low trust” in him.

Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III had a 38 percent approval rating, House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco had a 23.8 percent approval rating, and Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo had a 23.7 percent approval rating.

Their levels of trust were 25.3%, 14.6%, and 14.4%, respectively.

The 1,500 respondents in the poll were chosen at random by the Singapore office of American firm PureSpectrum from its market research panel of over 200,000 Filipinos, according to PUBLiCUS.

Only registered voters were allowed to participate in the final survey panel.
