MANILA, Philippines — After a survey company reported the military received the highest approval and trust ratings of all government departments in its first-quarter study, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Tuesday it appreciates the Filipino people’s continuous support.

In a statement given to reporters, AFP spokesperson Army Col. Ramon Zagala said, “The Armed Forces of the Philippines welcome the Filipino people’s continued faith and confidence, as indicated in the 2022 Pahayag First Quarter Survey by Publicus Asia.”

The AFP received the greatest approval and trust ratings among government agencies, getting 67.4 percent and 53.4 percent, respectively, in a survey of 1,500 respondents.

According to Zagala, the survey results reflect the public’s confidence in the AFP’s unwavering efforts to maintain peace and security, laying the road for the country’s further development.

“This promising result will be met with renewed determination by the men and women of the AFP in carrying out our responsibility of defending the people and securing the state,” he said.

For his part, AFP chief Gen. Andres Centino commended the troops for earning the military’s top approval and trust ratings in the recent Publicus Asia survey.

“I am grateful for the Philippine Army’s contribution in achieving the AFP’s internal security campaigns and providing needed services to our people during emergencies and natural calamities,” Centino said during his visit to the Philippine Army (PA) headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig, on Tuesday.

Army commander Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. greeted the AFP chief on his visit to PA headquarters.

At the HPA Grandstand, Centino received military honors and was awarded the Combat Kagitingan Badge.

During his meeting with the troops, the AFP commander reassured them that their requirements would be met as they carried out their mission of combating armed threats.

“We’ve already demonstrated our ability and mastery of the task at hand. We also have the correct balance of techniques and methods in place to undermine armed threats’ ability to frighten and extort money from the public, as well as their ability to create resources “he stated

He also stated that President Rodrigo Duterte honors the men and women of the Armed Forces of the Philippines for their unwavering commitment and service to the country and its people.

“The President thanked the AFP for its multifaceted role in nation-building, including protecting the people and the state from all dangers and assisting our people during natural disasters. He expressed his delight at the prospect of departing his post shortly, knowing that he will be leaving behind a strong Armed Forces. I appreciate the PA’s assistance to making the AFP stronger than it was before “Centino remarked.
