The invasion of Ukraine by Russia is deserving of “condemnation,” according to PRRD.

MANILA, Philippines β€” On Tuesday, President Rodrigo R. Duterte condemned Russia’s unprovoked military assault on Ukraine.

In a speech in Butuan City, Duterte admitted that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin are both accused of crimes against humanity and war crimes by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

He did, however, emphasize that he was different from Putin in that he only allowed “criminals” to be killed, whereas the latter allowed bombings of children and the elderly.

“Ang pinapatay ko kriminal, nagpapatay ako ng tao.” Matanda ako bumubomba ng bata, matanda ako bumubomba ng bata, matanda ako bumubomba ng bata, matanda ako bumubomba ng I don’t kill children or the old),” declared Duterte.

Despite referring to Putin as a “friend,” Duterte criticized Russia’s attacks on Ukraine as “very savage.”

“Magkaibigan kami ni Putin,” says the narrator (Putin and I are friends). What is taking place there is deplorable. “It’s not excellent in Hindi,” he continued.

Duterte insisted that he is not like Putin in an edition of The President’s Chatroom that aired on Monday.

“Totoo naman ako may kaso.” At the same time, ‘yung patay, baka nga totoo. So, while I am facing cases, naman hindi naman ako kagaya kay Putin (It is true that I am facing cases. And it’s possible that the fatalities are real. But I’m not like Putin),” he assured his guest, former presidential spokeswoman and senatorial candidate Harry Roque.

‘We don’t kill for no reason,’ says the narrator.

Meanwhile, he slammed the international tribunal once more for investigating possible crimes against humanity linked to Duterte’s anti-narcotics campaign deaths.

“Itong mga’to, itong mga puti, kita mo gusto nila sila yung magpolice sa amin,” he remarked.

He defended drug war assassinations during police operations by claiming that they were carried out in self-defense.

“Kunwari pa pinapatay namin ng walang rason,” says the narrator. (They make it appear as if we will kill without justification.) Sinong gg papatay ng tao na walang karason rason “Who would kill for no reason)?” he continued.

Duterte has stated numerous times that he will not comply with the ICC and will instead face a Philippine court.

The ICC pre-trial chamber allowed a probe into the killings linked to Duterte’s drug war in September 2021.

In November 2021, the Philippines urged the ICC to postpone the inquiry, claiming that it is already dealing with deaths related to the drug war.

The request was granted with the proviso that the ICC “will continue its analysis of the evidence presented in its possession as well as any new information it may acquire from third parties.”

After ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda launched a preliminary investigation into Duterte’s drug war in February of that year, he ordered the Philippines’ departure from the Rome Statute.

On March 17, 2019, the Philippines officially severed links with the ICC, one year after the Rome Statute was repealed.
