The initial cost of damage to infra by ‘Agaton’ was above P145 million.

MANILA, Philippines β€” The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) stated on Wednesday that Tropical Depression Agaton destroyed infrastructure in Region 13 to the tune of PHP145 million.

According to the DPWH, PHP145.390 million was only partially spent on roads (PHP118.390 million) and bridges (PHP27 million).

According to the DPWH, eight of the 37 road sections impacted by “Agaton” have been reopened to traffic thus far.

Engineers, maintenance crews, and equipment from the Department of Public Works and Highways are on the ground monitoring road conditions and carrying out clearance and restoration activities, according to DPWH Secretary Roger Mercado.

He noted that operations to clear bottlenecks are in full flow, with men and machinery deployed at several locations, particularly in the Visayas.

According to the DPWH, 29 road sections were still restricted to traffic as of 7 a.m. Wednesday owing to flooding, soil slope collapse, soil erosion, landslide, and rockslide.

Thirteen of the highways are in Region 6, two in Region 7, and fourteen in Region 8.

According to Mercado, 29 road sections are closed due to soil slope collapse, flooding, landslides, road slips, soil erosion, and fallen trees/debris.

Sinking/damaged paved roads, scouring of shoulders, settling foundations, and damaged bridge approaches all caused harm to some highways.

The roads are in the following regions: one in each of Regions IV-A, 10, and 11, two in each of Regions 12, seven in Region 6, and seventeen in Region 8.
