70% of Pinoys believe the Philippine economy will improve in the second quarter.

MANILA, Philippines β€” According to the newest survey by PUBLiCUS Asia Inc., the majority of Filipinos believe the Philippine economy will improve in the second quarter of 2022, even as the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) continues to plague the country.

In its PAHAYAG 2022 First Quarter Survey, held from March 30 to April 6, PUBLiCUS discovered that 70% of 1,500 respondents believe the country’s economic prospects will improve between April and June 2022.

Around 32.6 percent of the 70 percent said they expect “a lot” of economic development in the second quarter of 2022, while the remaining 37.3 percent said they only expect “a little.”

PUBLiCUS also discovered that Filipinos are “usually optimistic” about the country’s current trajectory.

According to poll data, only 57.2 percent of respondents said the country’s current situation was “strong or very strong,” while 72.1 percent believed it was “maybe or certainly” moving in the right way.

According to the same study, 72.9 percent of respondents hoped that their household’s financial situation would improve a little or a lot in the second quarter of 2022.

In terms of national concerns, PUBLiCUS reported that the “most contentious” issues among respondents were the possibility of Metro Manila going to “Alert Level 0,” the signing of a law allowing foreign ownership of telecommunications companies, and the lifting of face mask requirements in public places.

According to the survey’s findings, roughly 47.7% of respondents agreed that the Covid-19 Alert Level should be downgraded in Metro Manila, while only 29.1% agreed that the present policy requiring the use of a face mask in public places should be lifted.

Only 44.2 percent approved of the signing of the law permitting foreign ownership of telecommunications businesses, according to the poll.

“Importantly, the easing of face mask requirements was the only topic evaluated on the March 30 to April 6 poll that generated higher Total Disapproval (49.2%) than Total Approval (29.1%) among respondents,” according to PUBLiCUS.

The repatriation of overseas Filipino workers from Ukraine (76.2 percent), the provision of fuel subsidies to jeepney drivers (70.2 percent), the temporary suspension of the fuel excise tax (67.9%), and the monthly distribution of PHP500 cash aid to poor Filipinos for three months were also backed by respondents (67 percent).

They also backed the Philippines’ vote in favor of a UN resolution calling for Russia’s troop withdrawal from Ukraine (58%) and the establishment of a hybrid voting system for the May 9, 2022 elections (54.7%), as well as the implementation of a four-day workweek (48.7%). (53.6 percent).

A nationwide sample margin of error of 3% was used to interview around 1,500 people.
