PH is cited by the G20 as an example of vaccine rollout.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has been designated as an “example country” in the acceleration of Covid-19 vaccine deployment by the Group of Twenty (G20), according to Carlito Galvez Jr., chief secretary of the National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19.

Despite significant hesitation and inadequate supply in the early stages of the national immunization program, Galvez noted that the group of major established and emerging economies praised the Philippines for stepping up its vaccination efforts.

“They admitted that the Philippines is an example country in terms of vaccine deployment acceleration,” Galvez said in a prerecorded “Talk to the People” with President Rodrigo Duterte.

“And nakikita nila na sinasabi nila na we were able to improve coverage,’ yung mga barriers na nakikita natin at alam natin na marami tayong obstacles na nangyari noong magkaroon tayo ng incident po sa Dengvaxia (They observed that we were able to increase coverage.) Galvez continued, “We had a lot of challenges, especially because of the Dengvaxia incident),” alluding to the dengue vaccine, which caused 620 deaths in children following its initial introduction in 2016.

The World Health Organization, World Bank, Gavi, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, and other foreign institutions collaborated on a report titled “Accelerating Covid-19 Vaccine Deployment: Removing Obstacles to Increase Coverage Levels and Protect Those at High Risk,” which was presented to the G20.

The G20 praise, according to Galvez, is a “major honor” for the Philippines from the international community.

“In terms of lowering vaccine hesitancy and raising demand for Covid-19 vaccination, nilalagay ang Pilipinas na isang ehemplo (It was put there, the Philippines was presented as an example),” he said.

Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, and the European Union are all members of the G20.

Spain has also been asked to stay as a permanent visitor.

Foreign governments have praised local government risk communication and community participation measures, as well as the relentless efforts of health care personnel and other front-line workers, according to Galvez.

As Covid-19 instances continue to drop, the majority of the country is on Alert Level 1, the lowest danger rating.

According to the Department of Health, just 1,571 instances, or an average of 224 daily infections, were reported from April 12 to 18, down from 271 daily infections the previous week.
