Duterte signs four bills to create and improve hospitals.

MANILA, Philippines β€” President Rodrigo R. Duterte has signed four legislation into law aimed at establishing and upgrading municipal hospitals in the Philippines.

Republic Act No. (RA) 11702 establishes the Southern Luzon Multi-Specialty Medical Center in Tayabas City; Republic Act No. (RA) 11703 establishes the Samar Island Medical Center in Calbayog City; and Republic Act No. (RA) 11705 establishes the Ilocos Sur Medical Center in Candon City.

Duterte also signed RA 11704, increasing the bed capacity of Cabanatuan City’s Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center (DPJGMRMC) from 400 to 1,000 beds.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Department of Health (DOH), the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC) all have a Malasakit Center at DPJGMRMC (PhilHealth).

According to the law, the DPJGMRMC’s existing professional health care services and facilities must be updated to meet and be proportionate with the increased bed capacity.

The DPJGMRMC’s current workforce, which comprises doctors, nurses, and support staff, must also be raised in proportion.

The Secretary of the Department of Health must identify the additional new jobs to be created and filled after consulting with the DPJGMRMC’s chief and working with the Secretary of the Department of Budget and Management and the Commissioner of the Civil Service Commission.

All of the laws were signed on Saturday, and reporters received copies of the paperwork on Monday.

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go praised Duterte for signing these measures aimed at improving healthcare delivery in various parts of the country in a press statement.

“As we face the Covid-19 pandemic, the need to equip and enhance our government health institutions is highlighted.” It is also our obligation as legislators to press for legislation to solve the shortage of proper facilities and equipment in our government hospitals, especially at this critical moment,” said Sen. Go, chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography.
