TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – The regional office of the Department of Health (DOH) recommended local government units (LGUs) in Eastern Visayas use a door-to-door immunization strategy against Covid-19.

DOH Regional Director Exuperia Sabalberino stated on Tuesday that the door-to-door vaccination system is effective in achieving high immunization coverage, citing the experiences of various local governments.

“The strategy produced better results than the previous tactics.” In a press conference, Sabalberino remarked, “We intend to boost the coverage of the vaccine campaign, which tends to increase the community’s resiliency.”

The Department of Health does not have information on how many cities and municipalities have undertaken the house-to-house immunization campaign.

As of April 25, at least 2,641,338 people in Eastern Visayas have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, accounting for 67.3 percent of the target population of 3,892,126.

A total of 265,415 people have received their booster doses.

“The public is reminded that a more aggressive immunization campaign against Covid-19 is still underway in the region.” Vaccines are still the best way to protect ourselves from the virus and its mutations. Get vaccinated and improve your immunity to help safeguard your neighborhood,” Sabalberino advised.

Since the outbreak, there have been 62,104 confirmed Covid-19 cases, 61,424 recoveries, and 666 fatalities in the region. According to the Department of Health, this increases the total active cases to 14, or 0.02 percent of the total.

From April 18 to 24, 14 new cases were reported out of 1,880 samples examined at four laboratories in the region, resulting in a positivity rate of 0.74 percent.

Due to Covid-19, no severe or critical cases have been admitted to hospitals.
