Due to the closure, overseas voting in Shanghai is still on hold.
MANILA, Philippines โ The Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai said Wednesday that overseas absentee voting has yet to begin in Shanghai since the city is still under lockdown as a result of the local government’s strict “zero Covid-19” policy.
Consul General Josel Ignacio said the Consulate is asking Shanghai authorities for authorization to operate the post physically, at least for absentee voting.
Apart from the voting precinct in the region being closed due to the lockout, Ignacio said the Consulate has yet to pick up election materials from Chinese Customs.

According to the most recent Consulate data, there are approximately 1,600 registered Filipino foreign voters in the area, with the most of them in Shanghai and a few in Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, and Hubei.
According to Ignacio, the number of cases in the city is gradually reducing, with the average daily case count falling below 20,000.
At least five of the 18 Filipinos infected with coronavirus had been released from Shanghai hospitals as of this writing.
