MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Thursday that the deployment of election paraphernalia, such as official ballots and vote-counting machines, is nearly complete with less than two weeks till election day.

All ballot boxes and transmission devices have been delivered to local hubs, according to Comelec Commissioner Aimee Ferolino.

The deployment of vote counting equipment is virtually complete, with 96.44 percent supplied, external batteries at 99.54 percent, and the consolidated canvassing system laptop at 99.01 percent.

Official ballots have been cast in 48 percent of the cases.

Meanwhile, the Comelec has permitted PWDs’ friends to accompany them to polling sites and help the voter.

“Companions of people with physical disabilities and severe mobility challenges, as well as motor constraints like tremors, will henceforth be allowed inside polling sites,” Ferolino stated at a press conference.

The Comelec en Banc, she claimed, had approved the idea.

In total, 511,612 PWDs have registered to vote in the May 9 elections.

Commissioner Marlon Casquejo stated that over 500,000 faulty votes will be destroyed on May 7.

“We have perhaps 300,000 plus faulty official ballots. However, we will also burn the roadshow ballots, bringing the total number of ballots destroyed to 500,000 “he stated

After the May 9 elections, the defective ballots will be separated into three sections and discarded.
