The Philippine and Malaysian armies have renewed their collaboration.

MANILA – The Philippine Army and the Malaysian Army reaffirmed their cooperation terms of reference (TOR), reinforcing the two countries’ longstanding friendship.

“This Terms of Reference stands on the foundations of our common security interests, shared sense of Asean identity, and shared vision of a more secure and peaceful Southeast Asia,” PA chief Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. said in a statement Thursday night.

The Philippine Army and its Malaysian equivalent have been working together since September 1994, when the two nations signed a Defense Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The Combined Committee on Defense Cooperation was founded by the Philippines and Malaysia, and it resulted in the formation of the Malaysia-Philippine Military Cooperation Working Group and the Malaysia-Philippine Army Working Group.

The TOR, which was extended on April 28 at the Philippine Army headquarters at Fort Bonifacio by Brawner and Malaysian Chief of Army Gen. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Zamrose Bin Mohd Zain, establishes the groundwork for future bilateral activities between the two armies.

The renewal, according to Brawner, demonstrated the two forces’ tenacious bonds.

“It also expresses our willingness to strengthen and complement each other’s military capabilities in specific areas in the spirit of friendship and brotherhood, and it is a tribute to our unwavering commitment to regional peace and stability in accordance with the Asean Charter,” Brawner added.

The Malaysian military official is in the Philippines for the 2022 edition of the Asian Defense and Security Show, which began in 2014 and is the Philippines’ biennial flagship defense and security exhibition.

Following the TOR renewal, Brawner also presented Zamrose with the “Combat Kagitingan Badge.”
