The victors of the party list and senate winners could be announced as early as May 16th.

MANILA, Philippines — A week after the May 9 elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is expected to announce the senatorial and party-list winners.

Commissioner George Garcia said on Monday in a television appearance that canvassing of the results of the 12 winning senators and an undetermined number of party-list parties might be completed by May 15.

“By the 16th of May, we should be able to announce the senators or party-list winners,” he stated.

The National Board of Canvassers will be chaired by the Comelec en banc.

Garcia is confident, though, that the local election winners will be known hours after the polls have closed.

“On May 9, we will only be able to announce the mayor and vice mayor. “We may then proclaim the congressman, governor, vice governor, and Sangguniang Panlalawigan the next day,” he stated.

The campaign will come to a close on May 7th.

Voting will take place from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day.

Meanwhile, the Comelec en banc confirmed the First Division’s decision to invalidate Datu Pax Ali Mangudadatu’s certificate of candidacy (COC) for governor of Sultan Kudarat.

The respondent did not raise any new grounds that would justify a reversal of the previous finding, according to the decision.

Sharifa Akeel Mangudadatu brought the lawsuit to have the COC revoked, alleging that Ali lied about material facts, such as not reporting that he is the incumbent mayor of the Municipality of Datu Abdullah Sangki.

He also claimed to have lived in Purok Garden, Tamnag, Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat for a year and eight months while his actual stay was much shorter.

“Respondent signed his COC and subscribed and swore to the integrity of his declarations therein,” the ruling stated, “showing that his fraudulent representations are deliberate and will effectively mislead the electorate on his qualifications as Governor of Sultan Kudarat.”
