DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines — On May 9, 138,721 registered voters are anticipated to vote in this city, which has the highest voter turnout in the province of Pangasinan.
The number of voters increased from 119,000 in 2019 to 138,721 for this year’s elections.
Michael Franks Sarmiento, city election officer, ascribed the increase to the number of registered Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) members who had aged and qualified to be regular voters three years ago.
“In addition, 80 percent of the registrants this past registration period were youths,” he added.
Sarmiento attributed the substantial increase in voter registration to a strategy his office initiated in 2019, which included satellite registrations in schools.
“To make the registration process accessible to everyone, the city Comelec (Commission on Elections) went to the schools and conducted satellite registration.” We targeted teenagers. We made certain that all secondary schools were covered. It assisted in decluttering the crown in our office,” he remarked.
San Carlos City has 126,283 registered voters, Urdaneta City has 95,971, Malasiqui has 85,815, Bayambang has 83,083, Lingayen has 72,144, Mangaldan has 67,912, Calasiao has 66,126, Binmaley has 63,908, and Alaminos City has 62,546.
Face shields, vaccination cards, and coronavirus disease 2019 tests are not required to vote on Monday, according to the Comelec.
