A 5.1 magnitude earthquake strikes DavOr.
MANILA, Philippines — On Friday morning, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Davao Oriental.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), in an earthquake advisory released at 8:15 a.m., stated the tectonic quake struck 118 kilometers southeast of the municipality of Tarragona at 8:02 a.m.
It reached a depth of 60 kilometers.
Instrumental intensity 2 was recorded at Malungon, Sarangani, and instrumental intensity 1 was recorded in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro, Alabel, Sarangani, Koronadal City, and Santo Nio, South Cotabato.
An intensity meter that detects ground acceleration is used to determine instrumental intensity.
The tremor is expected to cause aftershocks, but no damage is expected.
Magnitudes 5.2, 5.7, and 6 (formerly recorded by Phivolcs as magnitude 5.8) rocked Davao Oriental on Thursday.
The epicenters of all of these earthquakes were over a hundred kilometers away from Tarragona.
The movement along the Philippine Trench, according to Phivolcs director Renato Solidum Jr., triggered these earthquakes.
