For the May 9 polls, OCD and NDRRMC are on high alert.
MANILA, Philippines — In preparation for the May 9 national and municipal elections, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) will be on high alert, especially in terms of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19)-proofing the polls.
This, according to the OCD, is in accordance with the National Task Force Against Covid-19’s (NTF) Memorandum No. 6, which directed the OCD, all Regional Task Forces (RTFs), and RDRRMCs (Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils) to coordinate and mobilize member agencies to adhere to the requirements and needs set by the Commission on Elections (Comelecfield )’s offices on May 2.
In a statement released Friday, Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV, OCD deputy administrator for operations, said, “We urge our compatriots to keep the ‘Bayanihan Spirit’ alive to achieve a safe and healthy national and local elections.”
The OCD will support and coordinate the provision of medical supplies and other logistical requirements for Covid-19 activities as needed as the leader of Task Group Resource and Management and Logistics.
Comelec officials have previously met with the NTF and the OCD to discuss methods to protect voters from Covid-19 and allow voters with symptoms to vote.
