“Such action would ensure that victims are always accounted for,” Pimentel said.

According to data from the Philippine Commission on Women, a total of 18,945 incidences of violence against women have been recorded to the Philippine National Police’s Women and Children Protection Center between the commencement of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic in March 2020 through August 2021. (PCW).

According to PCW data, there were at least 4,747 occurrences of violence against minors between March 15 and November 13, 2020.

Pimentel bemoaned the fact that violence against women and children continues unabated in the country.

She said that her idea to create a national single database for VAWC cases would increase transparency and accountability.

“The pagtaas ng number na ito is nakabahala. (The growth in the number of [VAWC cases] is concerning.) In the Senate, let us focus on the welfare of women and youth),” Pimentel remarked. (
