MANILA, Philippines — Since the start of its “Libreng Sakay (free ride)” initiative in March, the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) has given about 11 million free rides to the public.
The MRT-3 announced in a Facebook post on Tuesday that from March 28 to Monday, a total of 10,990,908 passengers had enjoyed free rides on the MRT-3.
After being extended for another month at the end of April, the free-riding program is slated to conclude on May 30.
The presentation is intended to highlight the MRT-3’s improved service and facilities following its renovation in December of last year.
It now operates four four-car trains and 18 three-car trains, with each train car capable of transporting 394 passengers, allowing for 1,576 passengers on four-car trains and 1,186 on three-car trains.
On Tuesday, it held antigen testing for all of its personnel to assist assure passenger safety a day after the elections.
“Ang aktibidad na ito ay bahagi ng rail line’s health and safety regulations upang mapanatili ang zero case ng Covid-19 sa mga empleyado nito sa depot at sa mainline,” the MRT-3 said.
Passengers are reminded that minimum health regulations like no eating, no drinking, no talking, and wearing face masks are still in effect on the MRT-3 and other public transportation systems.
