Filipinos should respect majority rule,’ according to a Catholic priest.

MANILA – A Catholic priest urged people to respect the Filipino people’s decision in picking the country’s leaders.

The election outcome must be recognized, according to Fr. Anton CT Pascual, president of Radio Veritas, because it is one of the features of an independent society.

“In a radio interview, he stated, “Let us respect the rule of the majority based on a relatively calm, clean, and credible election.”

“That is an awareness of the democratic values of the foundation of sovereign public will and the rule of law,” he says chevalier “He continued.

The announcement came after presidential frontrunner Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. took the lead in a preliminary unofficial count conducted by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), the citizen’s arm of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), for the May 2022 elections.

Marcos currently has 31 million votes, while his nearest competitor, Vice President Leni Robredo, has only 14.7 million votes.

With 31.3 million votes, the former senator’s tandem, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, leads the vice presidential election. Senator Kiko Pangilinan came in second with nine million votes.

Earlier, Catholic Church leaders exhorted the faithful to respect and accept the election results, as well as to come together for restoration, including those who had a disagreement over the candidates they backed.

The PPCRV is currently canvassing the fourth copy of election returns (ERs) at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) at Espaa, Manila.

Despite reported difficulties such as broken vote-counting devices and Secure Digital (SD) cards, the church is hopeful that truth and justice will prevail in the 2022 national and municipal elections.

The Comelec estimates that nearly 80% of registered voters cast ballots this year.
