Marcos’ spokesman says Abalos will lead the DILG.
MANILA – According to the camp of likely president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. is scheduled to become the next Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
Abalos left his position at the MMDA to work as Marcos’ national campaign manager.
“I am pleased to inform you that Chairman Benhur Abalos has been nominated to manage the Department of the Interior, and he has accepted the task,” Marcos’ spokesperson, attorney Vic Rodriguez, said at a press conference on Friday.
Abalos created the “Vax As One” program, in which local government units accepted individuals from other areas in their immunization campaigns while serving as the overall chair of the Metro Manila Council.
Marcos had earlier stated that the Department of Education would be led by likely Vice President Sara Duterte.
At the same time, Rodriguez refuted a list circulating on social media concerning probable Cabinet members under the Marcos era, claiming that only Duterte and Abalos’ potential appointments had been confirmed.
“That ostensibly long list is false. He stated, “Walang listahan (There is no list).”
The transition team would be made up of Rodriguez, Abalos Jr., former Davao del Norte Representative Anton Lagdameo, former Manila Representative Nadia Angping, and South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr., according to Rodriguez.
