Apart from battling insurgencies on the ground, government troops use media dissemination to prevent communism from taking root.

In its ongoing combat against the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front, the Philippine Army’s 91st Infantry “Sinagtala” Battalion (91IB) includes youth awareness campaigns (CPP-NPA-NDF).

Lt. Col. Julito Recto Jr., acting 91IB commanding officer, said in an interview on Saturday that they hold talks in various schools throughout the province to warn young people about the dangers of joining the military forces.

On Friday, 100 senior high school students and their parents from Mariano D. Marquez Memorial National High School in Dinalungan town listened to presentations.

“Because they are naive and easy to manipulate, our youth are particularly vulnerable to erroneous beliefs.” They must be well-educated to prevent being recruited by communist terrorist groups posing as development and reform organizations. But their true goal is to destabilize the government and the youth’s future, particularly in depressed and secluded places,” he stated.

Recto urged parents and teachers to spread accurate information about the government’s commitment in supporting long-term peace and development, particularly in the province’s geographically isolated districts.

He also stated that the 91st IB will continue to engage youngsters through campus peace and development forums in order to further the anti-communist movement.

The United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines have designated the CPP-NPA as a terrorist organization.

On June 23, 2021, the Anti-Terrorism Council formally recognized the NDF as a terrorist group, identifying it as “an integral and inseparable member” of the CPP-NPA, which was established in April 1973.
