Internally Displaced Persons returned to their communities after being displaced by terrorists for two decades.

On the old battleground between Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) bandits and government troops, the military and the Sulu Provincial Task Force on Ending Local Armed Conflict (PTF-ELAC) built infrastructure and livelihood projects.

The PTF-ELAC is Sulu’s take on the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, a nationwide effort to achieve inclusive and long-term peace.

The projects in Barangay Bakung, Patikul included a village hall, 2.4-kilometer farm-to-market road, learning center, public toilet, water system, streetlights, and egg-laying facilities, according to Maj. Gen. Ignatius Patrimonio, commander of the Joint Task Force-Sulu and 11th Infantry Division (ID).

Barangay Bakung is one of 11 villages changed by the province government’s “Balik-Barangay Program.”

“They didn’t have any infrastructure or housing because the ASG had destroyed both.” As a result, we assisted them in rebuilding their communities,” said Patrimonio in a statement. “We were able to construct a resilient community after almost a year, thanks to the joint efforts of the Sulu PTF-ELAC, the Ministry of Public Works in BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao), and security forces.”

Hammisa Anuddin, the chairman of Barangay Bakung, thanked the local government and the security sector, led by Mayor Kabir Hayudini.

“We never imagined we’d be able to return to our home.” “We were internally displaced for 20 years,” Anuddin explained.
