Stop the division and animosity, says Marcos’ camp to DQ seekers.

MANILA – On Tuesday, presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s chief of staff and spokesman appealed to the petitioners in the presidential disqualification case against him to quit pursuing their mission of division and hate.

Atty. Instead, they should learn to respect the will of the majority of people who voted for Marcos and his running mate Inday Sara Duterte in the May 9 national and municipal elections, according to Victor Rodriguez.

“I appeal to those who continue to promote division: the people have spoken. The Filipino people have spoken, and President-elect Bongbong Marcos and Vice President-elect Inday Sara Duterte have been elected President and Vice President by an overwhelming majority. “Learn to respect the Filipino people’s will,” he urged.

Marcos’ spokesman said they have yet to get a copy of the petition filed with the Supreme Court to revoke Marcos’ certificate of candidacy and seek the issuing of a temporary restraining order (TRO) to prevent the counting of votes cast for him and his proclamation if he wins.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has previously unanimously dismissed the disqualification cases at both the division and en banc levels, according to Rodriguez.

“A copy of the petition that was filed this morning has yet to arrive.” However, I believe that these matters have previously been unanimously handled by the Commission on Elections at both the division and en banc levels. And these instances were rejected, with a unanimous ruling,” he stated.

Furthermore, the spokesman urged the petitioners to enable Marcos and his future government to use the limited time they have in a day to work constructively rather than cater to their hostility.

“And I beg to you, instead of advancing your agenda of hostility, e tulungan niyo na lang kami na pagtuunan at gamitin natin ang ating limitadong oras,” he said.

Petitioners Fr. Christian Buenafe, Fides Lim, Ma. Edeliza Hernandez, Celia Lagman Sevilla, Roland Vibal, and Josephine Lascano had asked the high court earlier in the day to issue a TRO prohibiting the Senate and House of Representatives from canvassing Marcos’ votes and proclaiming him president if he wins the May 9 elections.

According to data from the Comelec Transparency Media Server as of 2:47 p.m. on Friday, Marcos was still leading the partial and unofficial vote total with 31,104,175 votes.

Meanwhile, Sara Duterte continues to lead all other vice-presidential candidates in the same incomplete and unofficial count, with 31,561,948 votes as of the same period.

As of this writing, 55,197,306 ballots had been cast out of a total of 67,442,616 registered voters. So far, 98.35 percent of the election returns have been processed.

Last Monday, the Comelec en banc upheld the ruling of the poll body’s Second Division, which dismissed Buenafe’s plea to have Marcos’ COC revoked.

The petitioners failed to submit fresh facts or circumstances that would necessitate the reversal of the prior Comelec Second Division’s verdict, the Comelec en banc said, similar to the disqualifying instances.

Comelec Commissioner George Garcia recently stated that, under Comelec regulations, winning candidates for the 2022 elections with unresolved disqualification proceedings might still be declared without a final judgement prohibiting the poll authority from doing so and if nothing prevents them from being declared.
