An official announced Thursday that the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board in Soccsksargen (RTWPB–12) has approved a PHP32 salary increase for private-sector workers in the region.

RTWPB-12 secretary Jessie Dela Cruz stated their agency issued Wage Order No. 22, which raises the daily wage for non-agricultural workers to PHP368 and PHP347 for agriculture, service, and retail outlet workers.

“The first tranche of PHP16 will be given with the implementation of the new pay order,” Dela Cruz said in an interview. “The second tranche of PHP16 will be implemented on September 1.”

Dela Cruz noted that the pay rise is being phased in because their agency took into account the financial situation of businesses affected by the pandemic.

According to him, representatives from the labor and business management sectors examined the need for salary increases among private-sector workers as well as the employer’s ability to pay.

“We recognize that the current scenario is unique due to the pandemic,” he added.

The new wage order will be sent to the National Wages and Productivity Commission for approval, according to Dela Cruz.

“Once confirmed, the new salary order will go into effect 15 days after it is published in local newspapers,” Dela Cruz added.

Based on the 2020 minimum wage revisions, the current minimum wage in Soccsksargen is PHP336 per day for non-agriculture workers and PHP315 for agro, retail, and service workers.

The provinces of South Cotabato, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, as well as the cities of Kidapawan, Koronadal, Tacurong, and General Santos, are all covered by the Soccsksargen.
