90% of LRT-2 elevators and escalators have been refurbished.

MANILA – Approximately 90% of all elevators and escalators in LRT-2 stations have been rebuilt and are currently working.

As of Thursday, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), the LRT-2’s operator and maintenance provider, has restored 66 of the LRT-2’s 72 escalators and 36 of the LRT-2’s 40 elevators.

In a Facebook post, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said, “The rehabilitation and repair of station escalators and elevators are in line with the LRTA’s efforts to improve the accessibility of the rail service for the riding public, particularly the elderly, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).”

Earlier this month, DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade asked for the “urgent repair” of all inoperable LRT-2 station escalators and elevators, as well as the blacklisting of some LRT-2 vendors.

The LRT-2 is a metropolitan rail service that runs from C. M. Recto in Manila to Masinag in Antipolo City, with 17.69 kilometers of track and 13 stations.
