MANILA – During separate meetings at BBM headquarters in Mandaluyong City on Monday, Presumptive President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. received the United States Chargé d’Affaires and the Ambassadors from Japan, South Korea, and India.

At roughly 9 a.m., Kazuhiko Koshikawa, the Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines, made Marcos a courtesy call, followed by Ambassador Kim Inchul of South Korea at 10 a.m.

Indian Ambassador Shambhu S. Kumaran paid a visit at 11 a.m., followed by US Chargé d’Affaires Heather Variava, who arrived about 12 p.m.

The envoys pledged to deepen trade and diplomatic connections, as well as their shared values in democracy, self-determination, and economic recovery, during their private sessions.

“We were able to address many of the things on how we would handle the next few years in terms of our countries’ relationship,” Marcos told reporters following the series of meetings.

The envoys from the four countries also told Marcos that they would provide whatever support was needed to help the country recover from the pandemic’s consequences.

“Ang lagi ko lang pinapaalala sa kanila sinasabi ko palagay ko sa pandemyang ito ang recovery ng lahat natin ay hindi kakayanin ng kahit na isang bansa, kahit na gaano kayaman kailangan,” Marcos said.

“We’ve been making excellent progress for the past few years, and we look forward to continue that momentum under the incoming administration,” the Indian Ambassador told reporters after meeting with Marcos.

Other officials were unable to meet with the media following their meeting with Marcos due to prior commitments.

Marcos also told the four countries’ envoys that the Philippines has always valued them as friends, allies, and partners.

Marcos won by a landslide, with almost 31 million votes cast in the national election on May 9.

Earlier, other international leaders congratulated Marcos on his victory, including those from the United States, China, Russia, Japan, Australia, South Korea, and the European Union.

“As you know, nakatanggap na ako ng mga (I’ve already gotten) congratulatory letters from heads of state nakausap ko na sila, ang unang nakatawag sa amin ay si (I’ve talked to them, the first was) US President Joe Biden, and Chinese President Xi,” Marcos explained.

“As well, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida, I chatted with Australia’s departing Prime Minister, PM Morrison, who had recently won an election.” So, many are happening now, and we’re already getting recognized,” he continued.

“Mukha namang wala ng problema sa (there appears to be no problem with) recognition for this new administration.” “Perhaps the comfortable margin we enjoyed during the election has something to do with that,” Marcos said.

Various foreign leaders have already praised the country’s peaceful and orderly election process.
