MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) appreciates the Department of Budget and Management’s (DBM) decision to boost funding for the Senior High School Voucher Program (SHS VP) and the Educational Service Contracting Program (ESCP) (ESC).

The Department of Education (DepEd) claimed in a statement that the budget increase will improve students’ access to high-quality education.

“The Department of Education extends its gratitude to the DBM and the national government for their consistent support of the Government Assistance and Subsidies voucher programs” (GAS). “The Department reaffirms its commitment to continue to operate its voucher program efficiently and effectively,” according to the statement.

Under the “Budget Call for the Fiscal Year 2023,” the SHS VP was given a PHP39.33 billion budget, out of the PHP626.18 billion Tier 1 Level approved by the DepEd.

This will affect roughly 1.132 million voucher recipients across the country.

A PHP11.05 billion allocation for the ESC was also secured by the DBM.

The agency plans to expand help to private educational institutions as a result of the figures, with their potential for “full payments” being approved.

In 2015, the SHS VP was automated to provide financial aid to senior high school students.
