President-elect Marcos and Vice President-elect Sara are congratulated by the Palace.

MANILA, Philippines – Malacanang congratulated President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Vice President-elect Inday Sara Duterte on their declaration based on the canvassing of ballots by members of Congress serving as the National Board of Canvassers on Wednesday.

In a press statement, acting presidential spokesperson and Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said, “We congratulate Mr. Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. and Ms. Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio on their electoral victory and proclamation as President-elect of the Philippines and Vice President-elect of the Philippines, respectively.”

The Congress’ proclamation event, according to Andanar, serves as “a showcase and beacon of democracy in this area of the world.”

He reaffirmed his call for the public to rally behind the newly elected authorities.

“As both leaders prepare to take on the responsibilities and challenges of their respective offices,” he continued, “we repeat our call for our people to rally behind our newly elected leaders.”

Andanar also stated that departing President Rodrigo Duterte’s office will facilitate a peaceful, orderly, and seamless transfer of power to Marcos, as well as provide all necessary support and assistance to various transition operations.

Marcos, the son of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, was proclaimed the presidential election victor by Congress on Wednesday after receiving over 31.6 million votes in the final tally.

Sara, the former President Duterte’s daughter, was elected Vice President-elect with 32.2 million votes.

The upcoming administration brings together the Philippines’ two most powerful political families.

In the presence of members of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, the proclamation ceremony was held at the Batasang Pambansa.

Marcos claimed he felt “humbled” in an interview after being sworn in as the country’s 17th president.

“I am humbled because the most valuable thing a fellow citizen can give you in public service or in a public life is their vote because embedded in that vote are their dreams and aspirations for the future,” he remarked.

On June 30, Marcos will be sworn in as President.

Sara, on the other hand, has set June 19 as her Davao City inauguration date.
