Duterte is presented with the credentials of four envoys.

MANILA, Philippines β€” President Rodrigo Roa Duterte accepted the credentials of four new diplomats deployed to the Philippines on Wednesday, and they emphasized their desire to strengthen bilateral ties between their countries.

In a ceremony at Malacanang Palace in Manila, Duterte received the credentials of ambassadors from the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Republic of Indonesia, the Argentine Republic, and the Hellenic Republic.

Duterte said the ambassador will begin his tour of duty on a “promising note” as the Philippines and Cambodia celebrate 65 years of diplomatic relations in his remarks after receiving the credentials of Cambodian Ambassador to the Philippines Phan Peuv.

He expressed the expectation that high-level contacts between their countries would continue when his term ended, and that they would chart the future trajectory of their growing cooperation.

“On its Asean Chairmanship this year, Cambodia can count on the Philippines’ continued support and cooperation.” “The Philippines remains dedicated to deepening its ties with all of its regional partners,” he said.

He also praised Cambodia for its successful presidency of the Asia–Europe Meeting (ASEM) the previous year.

Peuv, for one, aimed to improve Philippine-Cambodian ties and bring their people and countries closer together.

Duterte described Indonesia as one of the country’s closest friends and regional partners when speaking with the Indonesian Ambassador to the Philippines Agus Widjojo.

“We are natural friends because of our shared commitment to peace in our region and the development of our peoples,” Duterte remarked.

He told Widjojo that he has the highest regard for Indonesian President Joko Widodo and is glad to have observed, despite the hurdles, the expansion of Philippine-Indonesian collaboration.

“As we advance our shared goal in the promotion of security in our region and work toward post-pandemic recovery,” he said, “the Philippines look forward to increased bilateral interaction with Indonesia.”

Widjojo pledged to continue cooperating in various fields to promote and extend economic cooperation between the two countries through close collaboration with bilateral and regional structures.

Duterte reminded Argentine Ambassador to the Philippines Ricardo Luis Bocalandro at the presentation of his credentials that his arrival comes at an “auspicious time” because both countries will be celebrating their diplomatic ties’ 75th anniversary.

He stated that the Philippines is looking forward to expanding cooperation with Argentina under the Philippine-Argentina Technical Cooperation Agreement.

“On the regional and international fronts, we look forward to expanding collaboration,” he said.

Duterte also thanked the Argentine government for its treatment of Filipino workers and residents in the country.

Bocalandro pledged to continue to improve Philippine-Argentine relations and the development that has already taken place between the two countries.

When Duterte accepted the credentials of Ioannis Pediotis, the Greek Ambassador to the Philippines, he mentioned that the Philippines and Greece are celebrating the 72nd anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year.

“Let us strengthen bilateral interaction for our two peoples’ mutual benefit,” he remarked.

Duterte also expressed gratitude to Greece for the hospitality shown to Filipinos in the country and for their continuous support for Filipino seamen.

He also thanked the Greek government for the successful hosting of the first Defense Exhibition in Athens in July 2021, and expressed interest in expanding their defense cooperation.

Pediotis expressed the expectation that during her tour of service, she will be able to develop “more advanced bilateral cooperation.”

Duterte’s meeting with the envoys coincides with the declaration of his daughter, Vice President-elect Sara Duterte, who received 32 million votes, and President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who received over 31 million votes in a landslide victory.
