MANILA, Philippines — The country may have escaped the worst of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) epidemic, but “we are still not out of the woods,” according to Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje.

Cabotaje, who also chairs the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC), warned the public to be careful and receive adequate protection against the hazards of Covid-19 infections during a vaccination event at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

With the emergence of novel variations and subvariants, Cabotaje stressed that coronavirus remains “unpredictable.”

“That is why we must maintain our vigilance,” she stated.

Cabotaje, on the other hand, praised the municipal administrations of the National Capital Region (NCR) for taking the initiative to “vaccinate as one.”

“Kapang-kapa na nila yung pagbabakuna at yung Covid reaction, and of course, their local health personnel have well supported them,” she said.

Cabotaje is optimistic that the country will be able to overcome the health catastrophe, but she has urged local governments to step up their immunization efforts.

“Do it faster, ramp it up, because the Covid rush might go ahead of us,” she warned, adding that public minimum health rules must also be followed at all times.

In total, 69,037,072 Filipinos have been vaccinated in the Philippines, with about 14 million receiving the first booster dosage.

Immunocompromised people, health personnel, and older folks can get the second booster dose.
