Manila: Under Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio, the future education leadership must pursue education equity for all learners, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said Monday.

Briones mentioned the Duterte administration’s Alternative Learning System and Last Mile Schools Program at the Laging Handa public briefing.

This alternate learning system’s budget was increased by President (Rodrigo) Duterte. I explained the alternative learning approach and the Last Mile Schools Program in London, she said in English and Filipino.

Briones said these programs reach educationally-deprived people regardless of age or geography.

She stated they’re ready for a peaceful transition with Duterte-Carpio, with a handover from June 20 to 30.

She also needs a one-on-one with VP Sara or new Secretary Sara to brief her on DepEd’s concerns and issues.

Briones noted they are ready to deliver their medium-term plan, which includes studying digitization, to “catch up” to the worldwide setup.

“We’re looking forward to discussing our three-year, six-year objectives” (plans). We also have a strategy through 2030, and I’m confident the incoming Education Secretary is open-minded,” she said.

DepEd also prioritizes teacher perks.
