Manila: The Department of National Defense (DND) hopes the future administration would continue President Duterte’s modernization efforts for the AFP.

“Modernizing the AFP is key. We’ve come a long way in the six years since this administration took over, and we hope they maintain this initiative so we can attain a credible defense posture and police the entire Philippines. Andolong, representing Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, said this during a virtual presser after Day 1 of the Duterte Legacy Summit on Monday.

The DND wants the incoming administration to focus on obtaining territorial defense assets, a spokeswoman said.

All this equipment and platforms cost money, therefore Andolong said the DND wishes to consult with the future administration to continue modernization programs, including the missile systems already being procured.

“For the first time, we’ll have a missile defense and the radars and sensors we need, because missiles are useless without them,” he stated.

Andolong said the DND also wants to increase military training and capability.

“These are a few things we want to advocate for in the modernization and capacity building of our troops, airmen, sailors, and marines. These machines and equipment need men to operate “explained Andolong.
