On June 9, the DOJ chief will meet with Remulla to discuss the changeover.

MANILA, Philippines — Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra said on Friday that he will meet with Deputy Speaker Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla’s team next week to discuss the agency’s smooth transition to the Marcos administration.

“On Thursday, June 9, I will update Cong. Remulla and his team on DOJ operations, programs, and projects with the help of our senior officials.” In a Viber message to reporters, Guevarra said, “We will assure a seamless and orderly transition at the DOJ.”

President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has named Remulla as the Department of Justice’s secretary.

Maintaining the “outstanding” record in anti-human trafficking, increasing the campaign against cybercrime, and pursuing the 3-year joint program with the UN on human rights promotion and protection were among Guevarra’s recommendations to the next justice secretary.

Guevarra will also recommend to Remulla the creation of alternate dispute resolution procedures like mediation to help clear the court system.

They would propose relocating the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, professionalizing the Bureau of Corrections, regionalizing prison facilities, and completing the digitization of all carpetas (prison records).

Remulla may choose to pursue the immigration modernization bill and increase ties with law enforcement and the judiciary, according to Gueverra.
