COA’s qualified opinion on Nayong Pilipino is the highest in 5 years.

MANILA, Philippines β€” The Commission on Audit (COA) gave the Nayong Pilipino Foundation (NPF) a “qualified opinion” audit rating for its financial report for the fiscal year 2021, the foundation’s highest since 2016.

After receiving a “Disclaimer of Audit Opinion” in the previous year, the agency improved its performance under the direction of then-newly-installed Executive Director Gertie Duran-Batocabe through strategic interventions, full implementation, and compliance with the state auditors’ recommendations.

NPF has also made tremendous progress in addressing its fiscal issues and is on the verge of closing the budget utilization gap. The agency’s budget utilization has increased to 90% in 2021, up from 56.86 percent in 2020.

“This honor is yours,” Duran-Batocabe stated in a speech, acknowledging the staff’s efforts and thanking them.”

NPF, an affiliated agency of the Department of Tourism (DOT), has been staunch in its support of the national government’s Covid-19 pandemic response while following its goal of promoting Filipino identity and cultural heritage since the commencement of the coronavirus pandemic.

NPF first opened its doors in June 2020 to house the two-hectare Inter-Agency Task Force quarantine facility, and then again in June 2021 to house the 10,000-square-meter mega vaccination site.

Despite the unforeseen hurdles, the agency has continued to strengthen its programs in order to fulfill its main responsibilities.

The NPF created a Conceptual Master Plan that would serve as a repository of site information and planning tools for the Nayong Pilipino Foundation Cultural Parks and Creative Hub’s development.

The NPF also spearheaded the Museo ng Nayong Pilipino – Virtual Museum Project, a quarterly digital display showcasing the NPF Collection’s numerous ethnographic categories.

In August 2021, the agency hosted its inaugural virtual Research Summit, which brought together multiple experts from several disciplines as well as students from various universities and Local Government Units.

The MakaNayon Leadership Course, a program for cultural and/or tourism frontline workers, was added to NPF’s Cultural Leadership Institute.

The five-module interactive courses were recently vetted and will be used by the DOT, its connected agencies, and other associated government institutions as a resource material for more cumulative capacity building.

Guiller Asido and Vincent Caares of the Intramuros Administration, DOT Undersecretary Edwin Enrile, and DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat were among Duran-mentors. Batocabe’s

“I am grateful for their leadership in guiding our agency to bigger potential and for their support along the road,” she said.

“”There is still much to be done, but we aim to leave it better,” she concluded, quoting our honorable Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.
