MICECon ’22 is expected to enhance tourism in Davao.
The local government wants to revive the tourism economy in November 2022 by staging another large event.
The Tourism Promotions Board and the Department of Tourism are hosting the three-day Meetings Incentives Conferences and Events (MICECon) 2022.
“Through our prior staging of MICE events, we have presented Davao’s competence in handling MICE events and positioned Davao as a favored MICE destination in the country and, eventually, Southeast Asia,” said Generose Tecson, chief of the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO).
Davao City won the bid to host MICECon in October 2019, but the pandemic forced a two-year delay, according to Tecson.
She also mentioned that Davao City’s constant Alert Level 1 has aided in the choice to hold the MICECon this year.
Sara Z. Duterte, the city’s outgoing mayor and Vice President-elect promoted the city’s metropolitan conveniences and rural comfort as a great site for both business and pleasure.
“As the country’s top-of-mind destination for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibits today,” Duterte previously stated, “Davao City is without a doubt the finest choice to hold the Philippine MICE Conference.”
The city’s accommodations are currently at 80-90 percent occupancy.
