MANILA, Philippines — According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology’s (Phivolcs) volcano update on Tuesday, although Mount Bulusan continues to spew large plumes, there have been fewer volcanic earthquakes in the last 24 hours than the day before.

In contrast to tectonic earthquakes, which are caused by fault movement, volcanic earthquakes are caused by the movement or eruption of magma from the volcano.

Seven volcanic quakes have been detected on Mount Bulusan in Sorsogon in the last 24 hours, which is down from 29 the day before.

During both the 24-hour observation period and the 24-hour observation period, substantial plume emissions 150 meters tall were seen. Emission from the plume is also continuing to travel northwest.

During an explosive volcanic eruption, volcanic plumes are columns of hot volcanic ash and gas ejected into the atmosphere. The height of the plume pouring out of the crater indicates a lesser eruption.

Since Sunday, when a 17-minute phreatic eruption and a steam-rich gray plume roughly a kilometer high were observed, Mount Bulusan has been on Alert Level 1 (low-level disturbance).
