Ukraine will get $1.49 billion in aid from the World Bank.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — According to a statement from the World Bank, the Board of Executive Directors has approved USD1.49 billion in additional financing for Ukraine.
The fresh funds are part of an overall support package worth more than USD4 billion that the World Bank is putting together.
Financial guarantees from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Latvia, and other countries are included in the aid package.
The World Bank anticipates that the project’s funds will be used “to pay for wages for government and social workers.”
According to the statement, World Bank Group President David Malpass is “working with donor countries to mobilize financial support” and taking steps “to help give Ukrainians access to health care, education, and social protection.”
