MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) announced on Thursday that it has destroyed a total of PHP4.6 million worth of abandoned and forfeited items.

Carmelita Talusan, District Collector of the Port of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), stated in a statement that the commodities were condemned on June 6.

Expired and unregistered food, old UV lights, forbidden Chinese medications, and 60 cartons of counterfeit cigarettes are among the things seized.

All of the commodities were condemned by pyrolysis under the supervision of the BOC-Auction NAIA’s and Cargo Disposal Division, she said.

Talusan also emphasized the necessity of stopping the introduction of prohibited commodities, including pharmaceuticals and food items that were unlawfully imported without the required authorization.

She emphasized the necessity of ensuring that conducting business is simple and that items are released quickly.

The action was also part of BOC-attempt NAIA’s to make sure the Port of NAIA’s warehouses and infrastructure can handle all inbound goods.
