MANILA, Philippines — With Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez poised to become the next Speaker of the incoming 19th Congress, the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party secured 23 more members in the House of Representatives.

On Thursday, Lakas-CMD president Romualdez administered the oath to the new party members in Mandaluyong City, boosting the party’s lower chamber number to 50.

“We are overjoyed that our coworkers have chosen to join us at Lakas-CMD. “As one of the country’s largest political parties, we look forward to having a meaningful engagement with them and sharing the ideals and advocacies we have followed and pursued,” Romualdez added.

The party’s increased numbers, according to Romualdez, will enhance support in the House for President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s legislative program.

Rep. At a thanksgiving dinner he threw for his campaign employees and supporters last month, Marcos Jr. praised Lakas-role CMD’s to the campaign’s success, according to Palma.

The Lakas-CMD has formally endorsed Romualdez for Speaker of the House of Representatives in the upcoming Congress.
