The Comelec expects voter registration to resume next month.
MANILA, Philippines — As part of the preparations for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on December 5, 2022, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) plans to resume voter registration next month.
Acting Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said in a statement that the proposal is to hold voter registration from July 4 to July 30.
The restart of voter registration is “subject to the Commission en banc’s approval,” he stated.
On the directive of the Commission en banc, and with Commissioner Rey Bulay as the Commissioner-in-Charge, all administrative and operational preparations for the December BSKE have commenced, according to Laudiangco.
Other activities included drafting and implementing resolutions, procuring ballot paper and other election supplies, procuring printing services for official ballots, accountable and non-accountable forms, and revisiting/re-examining health protocols, including continuing to provide isolation polling places in coordination with the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).
According to the Comelec, the total number of registered voters for barangay elections is expected to be 66,053,357, while the total number of registered voters for SK elections is expected to be 23,059,227.
“Please keep in mind that these are just forecasts based on historical data for the BSK’s planning and procurement,” Laudiangco explained.
