Exec: There have been no applications for vloggers to cover Palace events

MANILA, Philippines β€” Despite the fact that the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) has had an interim policy on the accreditation of vloggers and other social media practitioners in place since 2017, an official claimed on Thursday that no one has asked for accreditation to cover Palace events.

PCOO Undersecretary and acting deputy presidential spokesperson Michel Kristian “Kris” Ablan told DZMM’s Teleradyo program that accreditation is still open, but that this time, Press Secretary-designate Rose Beatrix “Trixie” Cruz-Angeles and her team will be in charge.

“Mayroon po tayong existing social media-vlogger accreditation rules nung 2017 pa po’yan, nung kasama pa po si Assistant Sec. Mocha Uson,” said the statement. However, wala po kaming na-accredit na vlogger kasi wala pong nag-apply (Since 2017, when we were with Assistant Sec. Mocha Uson, we have had an existing social media-vlogger accreditation policy.) But no vloggers have been accredited because no one has applied),” he said.

When asked if vloggers will be allowed to cover President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s upcoming inauguration, Ablan indicated the question should be sent to Cruz-Angeles.

“Anything to do with the inauguration, including whether or not vloggers will be allowed at the event,” he added.

However, he stated that the PCOO will be in full force at Marcos’ inauguration on June 30 at the National Museum of the Philippines in Manila.

“Lahat ng aming broadcasting arsenal sa kanila, we are providing full force” (all our broadcasting arsenal to them). So, andyan po ang RTVM para magcover, and andyan po ang ating PIA [Philippine Information Agency], PTV, tsaka ang Radyo Pilipinas,” he explained.

Ablan previously stated that when Marcos Jr. takes office in July, he will be able to rely on a stronger state media.

Martin Andanar, PCOO Secretary and acting presidential spokesperson indicated last week that the PCOO will not interfere with Cruz-Angeles’ intention to allow vloggers to attend presidential events and press briefings.

“The incoming administration’s decision to issue bloggers press credentials in Malacanang is an internal one. Any reaction or questions about the subject should be directed to the next administration’s Press Secretary-designate, according to Andanar.

Through Department Order No. 15, the PCOO granted accreditation to vloggers or social media stars with at least 5,000 followers to attend presidential events in 2017.

“A person who maintains a publicly-accessible social media page, blog, or website that generates material and whose core advocacy is the regular broadcast of original news and/or opinion of interest,” according to the directive.

Vloggers were allowed to cover Marcos Jr.’s campaign alongside journalists.

Cruz-Angeles previously stated that allowing social media personalities access to Palace coverage is one of the administration’s top aims for raising public knowledge of the incoming Marcos administration’s policies and programs.
