Government employees in Negros will study the environment and green technology.

The province of Negros Occidental is offering scholarships to 25 government personnel, including teachers and other professionals, who will study for a Diploma in Environmental and Green Technology Education (DEGTE).

The program is a partnership between the provincial government and the Philippine Normal University (PNU) Visayas, which is headquartered in Cadiz City in northern Negros.

In an interview on Saturday afternoon, Karen Dinsay, the director of the Negros Occidental Scholarship Program, said the course is aimed at environmental workers.

“This is a brand-new scholarship program, a first-of-its-kind offering under Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson’s administration. We want to help them learn more about green technology. “Those who are qualified are encouraged to enroll,” she continued.

The 28-unit DEGTE program, which will begin next semester, is designed to meet the continuing professional development needs of professionals and practitioners in Environment and Green Technology Education (EGTE) and aims to develop knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes toward environmental protection, conservation, and sustainability.

The concepts, theories, and principles of Environmental Science, Human Systems and the Environment, and Education and Teaching are covered in this course.

PNU Visayas was designated as an EGTE Hub in 2019 by the Board of Regents Resolution No. 2947.

Filipino citizens and inhabitants of Negros Occidental are eligible to be DEGTE scholars.

He or she must be a teacher or a government employee in the province who is involved in community participation and public service.

In the presence of Center for Environment and Green Technology Education director Meah Gonzaga, Lacson had earlier signed a memorandum of agreement with PNU Visayas executive director and provost Denmark Yonson for the implementation of the DEGTE Scholarship Program in conjunction with the 30th Provincial Environment Month this June.
